Sarpy County, Nebraska

Sarpy County, Nebraska served as the catalyst for much of the state's growth and settlement.  Explored by the renowned duo of Lewis and Clark in 1805, Sarpy County was among the last of NE's officially recognized communities on the Missouri River.  The county was name in honor of Colonel Peter Sarpy, an early fur trader in the area.

Sarpy County reported a population of 122,595 at the time of Census 2000; however, estimates in 2007 indicate more than 16% growth to 142,637.  This recent estimate ranks Sarpy County among NE's most fastest growing counties.  Sarpy is one of the eight counties in the massive Omaha-Council Bluffs Metropolitan Statistical Area

Sarpy County's largest cities include Bellevue, Chalco, La Vista, Offutt Air Force Base and Papillion, the county seat. Located in southeastern NE, Sarpy County has a scenic landscape featuring 247 square miles of undulating hills, lush forests, and miles of rivers that meander through the region. 

Sarpy County boasts a pro-business community, safe affordable neighborhoods and excellent schools that include Bellevue University.  The Sarpy County communities also have a rich cultural and recreational scene that includes such popular destinations as the Fontenelle Forest, Soaring Wings Vineyard and Wehrspann Lake.
